About

Partnership Goals

The joint UCR and City of Hope Comprehensive Cancer Center (CoHCCC) Partnership in Cancer Research and Education (CARE) is supported by a NIH U54 grant from the National Cancer Institute (NCI). The overarching goal of the UCR/CoHCCC-CARE partnership is to advance cancer research and education to the populations in our catchment areas (Riverside, San Bernardino, & Los Angeles counties) and reduce cancer deaths throughout the entire drug development pipeline.

The specific aims of the CARE partnership are to develop joint UCR/CoHCCC cancer research projects, mentor and train the future generation of cancer biologists, develop outreach and education programs for our underserved regional communities, and address any discrepancies in target identification, drug discovery, and translational clinical trials.

 Aim 1

will strengthen UCR’s cancer research capacity and develop the resources to increase UCR/CoHCCC’s ability to jointly identify targets and develop therapeutic agents optimized for the diverse populations in our catchment area.

 Aim 2

will increase the capacity of UCR and CoHCCC to jointly develop drugs that target cancer deaths affecting the diverse individuals living in our Southern California communities.

 Aim 3

will provide the training, opportunity, and mentorship to ensure that the next generation of therapeutic scientists and clinical trialists reflect the diversity of Southern California.

Community Outreach and Engagement

To achieve the above goals the CARE partnership will (1) reach out to our communities for their feedback and involvement in our partnership research projects and cores, (2) provide education, technical assistance and training to community stakeholders so they can engage in the CARE partnership research projects and cores, and (3) facilitate the translation and dissemination of UCR-CoHCCC CARE partnership findings to the community to address knowledge gaps.
